Problems with the accessibility of water
Many solar sites have localised issues surrounding the supply of water, whether its simply no water at all, or logistically getting the water to the job site.
Problems often occur:
- In areas of inaccessibility: Remote or farm land without any (or easy) access to a water source
- On rooftop sites: Raising up equipment (and the associated safety issues). May also have pressure issues
Problems with traditional water based techniques
- Costly and inefficient: Typically 6L of water per panel in traditional methods. In comparison, Lavee uses only 50ml of liquid!
- Time consuming process: Allocation of time & labour for preparation, job and tidy up
- Infrastructure: Pipes, pumps, hoses, drains, etc all involve work, effort, costs, and general maintenance implications
- Utility based water: Contains Calcium (abrasive to panels), and Chlorine (damages seals & surrounds) - both degrade panels over time
- Wells / Natural supply: Could contain a multitude of unknown impurities
- Demineralised water: High cost and difficulty to acquire
- Risk of equipment damage (thermal shocks / microcracks): Temperature variations with water can cause rapid changes and damage panels
